Murder at the Atelier, designed by Velgus, is a murder mystery puzzle game developed as a holiday gift item to promote Brieger Creative, a Bay Area based board game development company.
Players are solving a murder mystery story across 10 puzzles on 18 double-sided tarot cards. Players will use cards in various ways which may require scissors and pens. Once the puzzle is solved, players will enter a hidden URL that concludes the game's story with a call to action to Brieger Creative.
I was the graphic designer on the project after the initial puzzle designs and layouts were created. The goal was to enhance the game's usability, develop the art direction and graphic icons to match with the theme and treat this as a branding project for Brieger Creative.
Brieger Creative's distinctive pink brand colour, modernist typography and geometric logo became the basis for the design direction for the icons and colour system used throughout the game's components and packaging. We worked with the artist Alex Tantraz, to create illustrations fitting to a New Year's Eve party at a fashion house with the puzzles appearing as found objects as part of the scene.
I also blind-tested my designs with my regular play testing group the ensure my designers enhance user experience of the puzzles.
